Monday Morning Quick Tip

This is a great product I discovered in Blogland.

It's called Rub 'n Buff. It comes in several different colors.

I need to get two knobs for an antique buffet I purchased a week or so ago (one of the original was missing).

At my local home improvement store I was able to get crystal knobs. They only had the ones with the bright brass base.

What to do?

Rub a little of this product into the metal. This particular color is a European Gold.

Then you can buff it out a bit. This was just what these knobs needed to work with this piece, without breaking the bank. It takes away that shiny brass look that just plain doesn't work anymore for most people.

Here's a peek at the buffet.

Yesterday I made up a mixture of 3/4 parts vegetable oil and 1/4 part white vinegar.
I wiped the entire piece down.

It began to come alive.

I still have several steps I want to take with this piece including Howard's Restor-A-Finish. But, I have to say the oil and vinegar really goes a long way in restoring the wood and letting you know exactly what you have under the layers of dust.

This piece has the most incredible planked top. If you have knowledge about the type of piece or the approximate age--I would love to know a bit more about it.

What I know already?

I am in love with this piece.

I can't believe I picked this up for $55.00 at a yard sale we almost didn't for.

Listen to your inner yard sale voice, when in doubt.

Happy Monday to all my friends out there.

I have a busy week with not only a garage full of furniture, but two custom dress form orders to complete.

Gotta get buys..

bye for now...

  2. Thank you so much for stopping by and following my blog. I am however glad you did, so that I could discover YOURS! WOW! I can't wait to go diving into your archives..I also thank you for the vegetable oil trick. I am certainly going to try that! And your buffet is awesome! It's funny, I have the same piece, painted white, that we turned into a Media Center. I don't have everything mounted over it yet, but I know it will be great! Thanks again for coming over! I am following you as well. BLessings.
