Guest Bath - Looking For Suggestions

This is my small guest bath. There are now windows. A small vanity with a vessel sink and wall mounted faucet.
A vintage mirror from an old hotel in New Orleans purchased on ebay.

A rustic towel bar across from the commode. A couple of framed prints on the wall


A Christmas night light is still in there. I like the night light, but obviously need one that isn't necessarily seasonal. Have you seen any great night lights that I might take a peek at?

The back wall is done in rectangular travertine til.

The walls are plastered in a soft golden color (Harvest Time - Benjamin Moore).

I know this little room needs something....I'm just not sure what.

So....I'm going to put these photos out there (Christmas night light in May and all) and see if you can suggest some accents for this space.

I can't wait to hear from you and get some inspiration.

A New Girl In EtsyLand

I just listed Marcella in my etsy shop....or should I say another girl just like her or a little different based on my customer's requests.

I will be making these to order.

I really enjoy working with my customers to find the right "look".

Wouldn't she be beautiful somewhere in your home?

I'm working on one for a very dear friend of mine that I've recently reconnected with on Facebook (lots of those great stories out there).

Hers will be very similar to Marcella, but there will be a butterfly in the small of her back with a hint of color, unlike the neutrals of this moth

I will dress each beautiful piece of art with her own vintage sheet music designer outfit, complete with special touches that will make her unique to you.

The wood base can be painted in your choice of colors.

When my next one is finished, I'll be sure to share her glamor shots with you.

I have so many ideas for different variations of these Parisian beuty....Heck, a girl can never have too many "looks". : )

Why We Go...

to garage and yard sales...

On Friday afternoon I found this.

A cute little lady (probably in her 80's) was sitting in her garage.

She has several tables with neatly displayed items spread across her front lawn.

I came across this.

The coolest Bake King Checkerboard Marble cake pans in the original box covered in a plastic bag. ($2.00).

I knew it was going home with me.

As I walked up to pay her I said "Did you used to make these wonderful checkerboard cakes?"

She replied, :Well...I always wanted to, but I never used the pans".

Upon closer inspection I realized the pans had never been used. For almost 60 years they sat in her kitchen and she never used them.

I told her "Well...I'm going to use them and make checkerboard cake for my kids".

She smiled.

This is why we go to yard sales.

Here's my thought on this Saturday night....

Let's use our "checkerboard cake pans" and live our lives to the fullest. Have fun with it all!

I Just Can't Part With It.....

I found this desk last week at a yard sale. Good Price. $1.00!

Here's what it looked like (not such a great before shot). The top was in really good condition, but the pink and aqua paint combination, although interesting, wasn't working for me.

I decided to paint the metal base with my new absolutely favorite paint--Rustoleum 2X in Heiriloom White.

If you haven't used this paint yet, give it a try. It has wonderful smooth coverage and comes in a wide array of colors. Around $3.00.

I brought the desk inside last night from the garage.

I had every intention of putting it in the store to sell it.

Well....once inside...I tried it in a "room setting".

Turns out it works really well here in the kid's television area of the great room. I love the fact that I can store my favorite decorating magazine in the opening. The kids can put their cups on the almost indestructible desktop (which has already withstood many years of kid use and abuse).


OK...let's be realistic.

I won'te be able to leave my cake stand and cloche here once the kids get home....

But I can enjoy it for now

It just shows you how ideas sort of evolve with time and thought.

She's A Beauty

Several years ago I saw the most beautiful vintage fan collection in Mary Englebreit's Home Companion (how I miss that magazine).

Since that time, I have wanted to start a collection of my own.

Well...welll...look at this gorgeous one I found on ebay a week or so ago.

It arrived yesterday and I was so happy with it. I'm certainly not an expert in the value of these, but I just LOVED the way this one looked.

Better yet, the price was right.

Not sure where it's going to end up yet, just know that I love it.

Priceless

Yesterday a local florist delivered this beautiful bouquet to my door.

It was from my oldest son (who is two states away).

He sent these to me for Mother's Day with a beautiful note.

The way these flowers make me feel and the thought behind them is incredible.

Raising children who are loving and thoughtful is one of a mother's greatest rewards.

I love you honey.

FOUND! A Great Old Door

I love the way old doors are used for headboards. Here's a couple great examples. They add so much character and cottage charm to a bedroom.

Here's the door we found at a yard sale yesterday. I thought it was just wonderful.

I made up a card with the dimensions of the door and also added the dimensions for a king, queen and two twin size beds to help potential buyers with measurements.

It was cleaned up a bit and delivered right to the store yesterday.

Here's a little Giggle sign I made a couple days ago that adds some fun...

I also put out some really great wood bowls (several were made in Hawaii and hand crafted, probably in the 50's).

I added some apples for color.

I kept a few of the favorites for myself (they are on my table with apples).

Hope your Monday is going well. It's "catch up" day for mean and cleaning the house after a couple of sleepovers with the kids this weekend .

The Most Rewarding Job

It has to be motherhood.

The hardest job I've ever had and at the same time, the most rewarding.
