A Better Than Before Day

I worked on a fun project today. I bought three mirrors just like the one in this photo about two years ago. Two of them are in our master bath and the third is in our guest bath.

They were found on ebay. They had been removed out of an old hotel somewhere in the South. They had been painted a flat white. Not too exciting, but I did love the shape and details.

After doing a great paint technique on a mirror last week, I decided I wanted to do something with these.

So here’s what I did.

I gave them a quick coat of Creamy by Sherwin Willliams and let that dry. Then I dry brushed on some Beach House blue by Benjamin Moore in very soft random strokes.

Then I did the same thing with a beautiful soft grey – French Grey by Behr. It really acts almost like a shadow. It adds dimension and joist a hint of color.

After letting that dry, I distressed the mirros with 80 grit sandpaper.

Then I applied glaze predominantly to the details and very lightly on the flat surfaces.

I removed excess glaze with a damp paper towel. It’s always better to put it on lightly at first, you can always go back to add more if you like.

I painted inside today because it’s quite chilly here (although not as bad as many areas of the country).

Here’s what they look like now.

Note: I couldn’t hang them back up by myself. I’ll have to wait for hubby to get home. Too heavy to hold and get the wire on the hook. But, hey, setting them in place works for the instant gratification yearning.

Here’s a side by side before and after. The one on the left is the third one that I will complete tomorrow for the guest bath.

Nice before, but, oh so much better after.

I just love the hint of blue and the soft grey.

This finish would work on so many different applications.

Thanks for letting me share my project for today. Can’t wait to finish up the third one in the morning.

I'm linking up to Cindy's Show and Tell at My Romantic Home today.
