A New Fall Look

I finished the piece I have been working on for the last week.

Let me start out by saying this is one of the best made pieces of furniture I'ver ever seen. It was in near perfect condition. The
inside of the drawers is finished as nicely as the outside.
An amazingly versatile piece! Not only would it make an awesome 6 huge drawer dresser, but I also see it in other places.

How about a great console for under y
our wall mounted flat screen?
Or used as a sideboard/buffet in a dining area. You could store dishes, flatware AND linens in these drawers.
Here's what it looked like a week and a half ago fresh from the Sunday sale.

It took some time to decide which direction I was going to go with this piece. At first I thought about painting it white and use the sheet music for the drawer fronts
I didn't want it be too feminine. I wanted to attract a bigger audience at the retail space .With this finish I truly believe this piece could be "at home" in just about any room.
I hope I'm right.
I painted the body with a semi-gloss black. Distressed the edges to bring the wood tones through that seemed pretty
boring to me in their entirety.

I like the contrast of the drawers with the body.

I used a matte medium to apply the vint
age music sheet pages.
I try to pay special attention to the song names in my sheet music collection. Sometimes I want to through in a few titles to my work.

This is the top left drawer of the piece....DO YOU JUST LOVE THIS??????

"I Love A Little Cottage".....Hhw perfect is that????

I stenciled with some black acrylic paint. I also added some texture with a little piece of wire mesh and pounced through it with my stencil brush.

One thing I did at the end was add a little bit of champagne paint that adds a bit of metallic iridescence. I'm not sure how well this shows up in the photos.

YES....I DID have to kind of "stage" it after I finsihed it. Even though it IS still in my messy garage/work area.

I know most of you girls understand that.

Oh....I have to vent just a bit. One of my LEAST favorite tasks of this growing hobby of mine is this: removing and replacing the hardware. I spent a bout 25 minutes trying to get one of the screws back in for the handle. It just wouldn't "bie". I FINALLY got it and did the happy dance in the middle of my kitchen.

What memories will my kids have of me????

Check out the workmanship in this piece.

Just beautiful.

Today is September 1st....and you know what that mans?

My VERY FAVORITE time of year has officially began. I'm CRAZY about autumn.

How could this day get any better?

THIS IS HOW.

The new Country Living arrived!!!

I've been too busy to sit down with it, but I'm planning a warm cup of Tension Tamer tea and a cozy bed to curl up in soon.

Can't wait.

One more thing....my lifelong friend Shari celebrates her 23rd wedding anniversary today. Hard to believe we were standing on that beach in Kauai 23 years ago.

What a wonderful memory on this day.

I'm linking up to a fun blog I found recently - Tales From Bloggeritaville. She hosts a great Thrifty Thursday party. Go over and take a look at all the great projects.

  1. I love what you did with your dresser! What a great idea to use vintage sheet music! I, too, appreciate how many vintage and antique pieces are made with such high quality craftsmanship.

  3. Really nice application of the torn bits of music on the drawer fronts. It looks so much better than the large, whole pieces of paper that so many people use! Did you seal everything? I like to use a furniture spray paint that has the finish already in it- saves a step. I believe it's available only to the trade, though. I know what you mean about hardware not fitting right after re-attaching. It can be very, very annoying to spend so much time messing with it. I rant and curse the blasted thing, too! Found you at Cindy's party.
