The Story Behind The Name

023

Happy Friday Friends!
I know my posts have been few and far between…things are busy here for sure.  I’ve been working hard creating custom dress forms.
I love to name my forms.  It makes them “come alive” for me.

I want to share a story with you.  I asked my customer what she would like to name her form and she shared this story with me:

I think "Daisy Marcellus" in honor of my grandmothers - they were the Sewing Queens of the depression years in the early 1930's on the prairie in North Dakota. Well-to-do relatives from "back east" would send a barrel of cast-off clothing via railroad twice a year, and my great-grandmother Daisy & grandmother Marcellus would work their magic, remaking all the clothing for the 8 children in the family - 5 girls and 3 boys. My mother said they had the nicest clothes for school except for the hateful wool stockings they had to wear in the winter. My mother would be shocked when at the age of 12 she discovered not everyone wore made-over clothes "from the barrel" - you could actually go into town and buy a ready-made dress that already fit! My mother was an excellent seamstress also, and I was blessed with the sewing gene too. I never got to meet Gramma Daisy, and Gramma Marcellus died in the early 1970's. I lost my mother to Alzheimer's last July, and sadly neither of my daughters has any interested in sewing. I have the family Singer treadle machine, my mother's Singer Featherweight, and my own Husvarna machine and will sew as long as I'm able.

I love the story and the sentiment behind this project.  I created a special “name tag” for Daisy Marcellus.
She represents so many dreams and memories for someone very special.
I love “meeting” the people I work with and getting to know a little bit of their story.
How rewarding.
Thanks for stopping in.

Chocolate Hangover–The Day After

003
I hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s Day.
We stayed in and had dinner at home.  Dinner was just a standard lasagna and salad…BUT, for dessert we did
FONDUE.
Chocolate Fondue.
I gathered up all the goodies.
Snickers minis, mini cheesecake, mini cream brulee,  pound cake, strawberries, bananas, pineapple and applies.
I melted a few different types of chocolate together and put it in my fondue pot (haven’t used it for quite awhile).
We dipped all the goodies in the warm gooey chocolate.
I haven’t been eating sweets for quite awhile…SO…I felt a little sugar “hangover” this morning.  But, it was worth it.
This is a super easy and special dessert idea for any special occasion.

I used my new red win sign as a backdrop so you could take a peek at that also….
Since we live in wine country here, I’m thinking this sign will be popular…we’ll see.

Thanks for stopping in, and, remember, chocolate can really make just about anything BETTER.

A New Logo And A Wonderful Etsy Artist

Good Morning Blog Friends!
When you find something FABULOUS, you’ve just gotta SHARE it!
Well….I have loved Etsy for a long time now.  I love shopping there, I love selling there, and I love all the talented people that are gathered in one space.
I ran across Marie at autumnscreek.  She does gorgeous work.  I loved the simplicity and uniqueness of her logo designs.
She created this custom logo and business card design for me.
I love it!
She incorporated my dress form with wings into the design.

She also does business packages, gorgeous photo card designs and offers a wonderful selection of quality envelopes in different sizes.
She was a dream to work with and quick to answer my questions and answer my sometimes silly questions.
Thanks Marie….you’re awesome!
Go over to her shop and take a look around…If you’ve been thinking about taking your branding to a new level, this is a great start.
Now go seize the day!

Another Sign I Can Relate To

001 (768x1024)
Hello my blog friends.
Here’s a fun sign that I just finished.
I’d like to say I can’t relate to this sentiment, but I’d be fibbing….
I do like to cook with wine : ).
AND, this sign makes me smile.

All That Glitters

026 (766x1024)
I named them Renee and Cosette.
These two girls were created for a couple of special customers who happen to be BFFs.
They wanted to incorporate German glass glitter, crystals, and, well, BLING.
029 (753x1024)
I found an Etsy seller who has very high quality German glass glitter.  If you are in the market for some, be sure to go over to www.kristalnorton.com.

I added crystal monograms on the back under the corsets…

I also incorporate just a “drop” of their favorite colors…light blue on one and light pink on the other…

Happy Friday!

035
Just a quick post this morning before I hit the ground running…
I had to share this story with you guys….
A few months ago I stumbled upon a great blog- Time Worn Interiors.
The name caught my eye because we named a small collection of furniture re-dos “Time Worn”.  Well…as I was going through her fabulous blog with the most wonderful retail displays I found an enamel sign that I REALLY wanted
1021
Why, you ask?  Well..first of all, I LOVE enamel  number signs, but the most important reason is….
In a previous life I worked for a large law enforcement agency.  We used codes on the radio.
1021 was the code for “call or telephone”.  Like most people who use codes for their work, it seems to spill into your non-work life.
It’s not unusual for my husband and I to still say “10-21 me when you get there”.
036
So…I contacted Theresa at her blog and asked her if the sign was still available.
It was!  She took it down, sent me an invoice and shipped it to me.
So, don’t be afraid to ask if you see something in a blog retail space that you’d love to own.
038
Have a fabulous weekend friends and enjoy Super Bowl Sunday with those you love.
