She lives on opposite coasts from me.
She is probably at least a decade and a half younger than I am.
I have never met her in person.
I would, without a doubt, recognize her on the street, even if she was wearing a hat (heck, I've watched heer on video glittering up letters!)
She has invited me to both her home and her workshop many, many times.
She has such a style and creative eye. I’m sure she has been decorating since she could talk.
Her energy level may be the most inspiration thing about her. She is, well, AMAZING> She is the mother of toddlers, she creates, she DOES, she teaches us how she did it and then she TAKES PICTURES of it in a most clarifying way. All is can say about her is, WOW!
Ok….I just have to say this one last thing about her….
As talented and famous as she has become, she STILL takes the time to comment on our little blogs, and better yet, send us a personal email from time to time.
There’s a reasons I like her so well….it’s just a gut feeling.
I would love to meet her at Starbuck's tomorrow morning after the kids leave for school. We would laugh. We would talk about our passion. We might also talk about how really messy our houses are. We let things go so we can do what we really love to do-create.
We sometimes opt to paint perfectly good white mirrors with a special paint technique, even though we should be folding clothes and pulling weeds.
A kindred spirit. Someone that I can totally relate to. A modern day pen pal. Yeah, that is what is she is.
In another place and time we would bee best friends. Sharing our Oreos at the lunch table. Talking about the boys we thought were cute. Growing up to be friends for a very long time.
Isn’t is amazing how we can make these connections through this wonderful medium called blogland?
Today I linked up to Miss Mustard Seed’s Copy Me Challenge.
It was funny. When I started reviewing a lot of my projects over the last year—I realized just how many were inspired by her and her blog. I hope I didn’t enter too many.
I love seeing everyone else out there and the way they were inspired by Marian.
Here’s just a few of my favorite MMS inspired projects.
So glad I found you at So You Think You Can Decorate Miss Mustard Seed!
I’ll wait with anticipation for each of your posts for a very long time…
So…if you haven’t gotten to know her and you love to re-create and explore your greatest potential, you’ve got to go visit her regularly.
You won’t be sorry.
Have a fabulous weekend.
Cori
Hi Cori, All of your projects look wonderful. MMS does inspire, however, you have your own special style that shines just as well.
ReplyDeleteYou seriously made me cry...in a good way. :) Thanks so very much for taking the time to write all of this out. It really means a lot to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful tribute to Marian. I found her blog for the first time about a month or so ago, not long after I had taken over a room upstairs to set up for refinishing / upholstering. Left a comment and it's just like you say she will visit your blog and leave a note...that in and of it's self says a lot about her. Her style is right up my ally in tastes and it's her blog that has really spurred me to get with it refinishing, repurposing my back log of projects.
ReplyDeleteHi Cori! Great job of channeling MMS! I love the sheet music dresser! Have a great weekend!....hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the dresser, for a few minutes I thought you were posting a pic of Marian's! I love your chair seat treatment, that is awesome. Thanks for coming by to visit me.
