Good Old-Fashioned Sunday Fun

What do two best friends do early on a Memorial Weekend Sunday?

Go yard-sailing of course!

We found this great (really old) all wood desk chair. These are the "after shots).

Diane reupholstered the seat and the seat back. We loved the wear and the patina of the beautiful wood, so we left it as it was after a good cleaning with some Murphy's Oil Soap and some Minwax Finishing Wax.

We also added a little crown to the seat back...lovin' that!

We went to the fabric store and decided on these dark burlap. We also purchased small upholstery tacks for the back of the seat.

Diane sat at the work bench for quite a while hammering those little babies in.

Great detail!

This is what she looked like when we found her on the sidewalk at the yard sale...

Her cover was vinyl. She didn't need a lot, just a little upgrade.

Here's a few of our found treasures..

A great old green wheel-barrel, a table we are going to paint off-white, some great candlesticks, an almost primitive green chest, and a blue suitcase that will get the off-white paint treatment too.

What a fund day! We were able to attend an estate sale downtown and walk through and grand and lovely old home. We didn't buy anything there (prices were quite high for some find pieces). But who doesn't love walking through a home like that?

Hope you are savoring the last day of this long weekend with your loved ones .

My One Year Blogiversary!

I've been so busy I almost forgot about my one year blogiversary yesterday!

Two hundred and thirty six posts later, here I am.

I want to thank my friend Diane for introducing me to this wonderful thing called blogging. She has been doing her blog now for over four years! Amazing!

This really is a sisterhood for me.

Who knew there were so many women out there that shared so many of my passions?

I'm so happy I'm here and appreciate my 77 followers so much (and those of you who visit regularly).

Here's to a great second year and a lot more projects and adventures.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Adoring Amelie

This is a custom dress form that I just completed yesterday.

Her name is Amelie.

She is on her way to her new home in Carmel Valley, California.

She is adorned with a beautiful butterfly image at the small of her back.

She also has the added beauty of a vintage crochet piece at her neck and around the bottom edge.

Doesn't the vintage handwork just give her such an elegant look?

Here she is next to my tub...she is right at home in the bedroom or the bath.

I hope her new owner just loves her.

My custom dress forms are available for sale in my etsy shop (check My Shop button on the left).

Thrift Store Find With A Purpose

This is such a great example of re-purposing...

Diane saw this heavy metal wine bottle holder at the thrift store and immediately knew it would be perfect for displaying some of the jewelry in my space.

It is!

It looks fabulous with some of the beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets for sale.

Marcella is also wearing a couple of the necklaces--The Free Spirit and The Tree of Life. A vintage crochet piece adorns her pretty neck.

Now this table was a GREAT find.

We walked into the thrift store (it has just come in), bought it for $5.00, took it home for a fresh coat of red paint and a black chalkboard top.

Two days later we were about to put it into the space and someone bought it before we could even get a price tag on it!

Now that's the way this is supposed to go.

Diane and I were so tickled with our find and makeover.

We are having fun with all of our projects and hoping for a good shopping weekend at the space this weekend.

NOTE: The red door sold this week! Yipee!

The Lucky 11

Today my beautiful daughter turns 11!

Here she is in the middle with her two friends. It's hard to believe that she is almost as tall as I am and didn't want to bring any classroom treats today (just too embarrassing). A special chocolate all the way cake will be here for dessert tonight.

I got up extra early this morning to make her a special weekday breakfast--pancakes, sausage and her favorite cheesy omelet.

Happy Birthday to my daughter.

I love seeing life through your eyes.

Old School

Here's some old school desks that Diane and I painted for my space.

We decided to do a red, off-white and blue.

We brought them to the Country Store today.

Together we rearranged the space.

I love the way it turned out. It's so nice to have Diane here and get her design advice and help.

We painted the desktop of theses great desks with chalkboard paint.

What a great piece for a child's room or play area.

Wish I had a couple of these when my kids were a little younger

Who knew how practical these desks were back in the day?

Just love this red one.

Here's a great Mixmaster I picked up at a yard sale last week.

I cleaned it up and it set it next to those great banana split bowls.

Love the original bowls in that PERFECT shade of blue.

It's always good to change things up a bit.....

and how about those two great globes we found this morning at the church sale?

What better way to get ready for the patriotic season of summer?

I hope you had a great weekend..

Our Girlfriends

Where would be WITHOUT THEM????

(that includes my blog girlfriends that I share so much in commin with).

This is actually a "WINE GLASS" that one of my oldest and dearest friends (since 5th grade) gave me when I was "home" a couple months ago.

Isn't she just ADORABLE??????

She makes me smile every time I look at her.

She is the Shopping Queen and I just know she loves ebay too! : )

Thank you Shari! I LOVE HER SO MUCH!

I'll be taking her off the shelf when my friend Diane arrives tomorrow for a two week visit that will end with a trip to The Farm Chicks the first weekend in June.

How great is that?

Here's to our girlfriends and how they keep us balanced and, sometimes, SANE.

Tell your girlfriends how much they really mean to you.

What I've Been Working On...

Here's a few projects I've been working on this week....A vintage typewriter (love those!) on a canvas and then I tried this birdcage on a large one...

I surrounded the perimeter of the frames with buttons from my collection...I love the marbled effect of my coffee staining...not sure if I can recreate that (but I'll try)

This wood box is a yard sale find. A cast off from the day we all loved "country". I primed and painted it off-white. I did a little chalkboard "inset" and had fun with it.

These are my recycled Starbuck's drink bottles painted the same Rustoleum Heirloom White.

I added some branches from my tree.

and here's the sunflower pillow I just did....found the art on my friend Dawn's The Feathered Nest and just had to turn it into a pillow. Doesn't it look great next to one from Ticking and Toilles' etsy shop?

and here's a "before" plastic pot from the JoAnn's 50% clearance bin...

and here they are after a little cherry stain was added and a bay leaves stencil along with a monogram stamp.

and last, but certainly not least, here is a gift from nature. We found these eggs right in the gravel of our driveway edge.

A cute little bird (like a sandpiper) laid these and she is watching over them (and so are we...)

You just never know where you might find the beauty of nature....
